I was watching the Colbert Report last night (might have been a rerun in which case this is stale news) where Colbert mentioned a web app some dude wrote called Wikiscanner that cross-references Wikipedia edit IP-addresses with known IP-address owners to see exactly who is editing the entries. This gets interesting when you see edits coming from IP blocks belonging to large corporations. As an example, Colbert pointed out how Exxon had “touched up” the entry on the “Exxon Valdez oil spill.” I decided to check it out for myself and sure enough, the part of the entry describing environmental damage got significantly toned down.
