I came across this Map of US Obesity Trends while perusing the xkcd blag. Very scary stuff. As of 2006, there are 21 states where at least a quarter of the population is obese. That’s a lot of fatties! We have McDonald’s, Lord of the Rings movie marathons, Dancing with the Stars, Twinkies, and Grand Theft Auto to thank for our bloated populace. And by the way…I’m being sarcastic.
Or am I? Maybe we should be thanking Corporate America for expanding our waistlines and emptying our pockets. Look at it this way: in the event of a nuclear holocaust or unforeseen zombie invasion we’ll be prepared to lock down and wait out all our troubles. As long as we store away a few bottles of multivitamins and an ample supply of water we’re set to survive for years slowly burning away our fat reserves. How many obese zombies do you know? Exactly. They’ll have died out (again) long before the obese have shed their extra weight.
