Folks,
If you don’t already know, Sparks is my flavored malt beverage of choice…and for good reason. It’s an orange, sweet, caffeine-infused, delightfully packaged soda with a touch of alcohol–what could be better? I hold firm to the notion that fellow Tarheels basketball fans can lend a significant boost to our boys by drinking a can of Sparks goodness every game. Drinking two or three is not entirely necessary, but field research conducted during the 2005 Final Four suggests a direct correlation between Sparks consumption and Tarheel domination.
Now this is not meant to suggest that downing a Sparks is a trying experience intended to develop solidarity with the Heels’ hard work on the court. Quite to the contrary, Sparks tastes great and is the perfect beginning to an action-packed (perhaps slightly crazed) night. The alcohol loosens your limbs whilst the caffeine, guarana, and taurine sharpen your brain. All the while you get to grip what can only be described as a giant battery–a great conversation starter. There’s original flavor (orange), Sparks Plus (black, extra alcohol), and Sparks Light (no sugar, blue can). There has even been rumor of a super-duper charged Sparks with 15% alcohol content. We’ll call it Sparks Viper for the sake of brevity. One can only speculate as to the color and styling of the Viper can–what, after all, is the color of tenacity? In searching for the answer on the interwebs, I happened upon the new and improved Sparks website. Here we find the usual product description, Sparks locator, ingredients, etc., but I was delightfully surprised by the various extras. For one, there’s a featured section of the “wall” devoted to William (not Billy) Ocean, an air-guitar phenom officially sponsored by Sparks. Not intrigued yet? How about the section on Sparks recipes complete with video. These aren’t your Mom’s recipes…
